Plumbing

Our water heater died the morning we had eleven people staying for Thanksgiving. Marisol had a tech at the house by 1:30 and we had hot water before the turkey came out. He even hauled the old tank up from the basement without scuffing a single stair.

— Linda, Upper Arlington · Water heater replacement · ★★★★★

T ran the camera down our main line and turned the screen so I could see the roots for myself. He explained the difference between clearing it and fixing it, gave me both prices, and didn't push. We cleared it this year and we'll plan the repair for spring. Exactly the price he quoted.

— Marcus, Grandview Heights · Sewer camera inspection & drain cleaning · ★★★★★

I called three companies about a slow leak behind the shower. K&D was the only one that found it without cutting a hole in the wall first. Agnes herself came out on the second visit to check the work. Who does that anymore?

— Beth, Worthington · Leak repair · ★★★★★

Sump pump quit during that big storm in June. They came out at 11 at night, had a new pump and a battery backup in by 1 a.m., and the tech mopped up our basement floor before he left. Worth every penny of the after-hours fee.

— Doug, Hilliard · Emergency sump pump replacement · ★★★★★

Riley the apprentice and T replaced every old galvanized pipe in our 1950s house over three days. They hung plastic, cleaned up every night, and Riley showed my son how a pipe cutter works. Our water pressure is finally normal.

— Shonda, Columbus (Clintonville) · Whole-house repipe · ★★★★★

Just a running toilet, nothing exciting, but the tech was friendly, fast, and charged me what the website said. I'll call them for the big stuff now.

— Gary, Grove City · Toilet repair · ★★★★★

The tankless install looks great and we love the endless hot water. Took off one star because the install day got pushed back twice waiting on a part. They did call each time, and they knocked something off the bill without us asking.

— Rachel, Powell · Tankless water heater install · ★★★★

Reply from Agnes Kowalczyk-Reyes, President: Rachel, thank you for sticking with us. That shipment delay was on our supplier, but your schedule is our problem, not yours, and we should have had a backup unit lined up sooner. We've changed how we stock tankless units because of jobs like yours. Enjoy those long showers. — Agnes

Heating

Kenji spent forty-five minutes explaining heat pumps to my husband, who asked approximately four hundred questions. No pressure, no upsell. We went with K&D and our first winter electric bill was lower than the gas bill used to be.

— Priya, Dublin · Heat pump system · ★★★★★

Furnace went out on a Sunday in January with a newborn in the house. The man who answered the phone (I found out later it was the founder!) talked me through checking the filter and the switch while a tech was on the way. Heat was back on in two hours. Comfort Club member for life.

— Ashley, Hilliard · Emergency furnace repair · ★★★★★

Another company told us we needed a whole new furnace for $7,000. K&D came out for the free second opinion, found a bad inducer motor, and fixed it for a fraction of that. The furnace is 11 years old and running like a champ.

— Tom, Westerville · Furnace repair (second opinion) · ★★★★★

Dana came out herself to look at our old boiler. She was honest that it had a few years left and showed us what to watch for. When it finally went, we called nobody else.

— Eleanor, Upper Arlington · Boiler replacement · ★★★★★

Tune-up was on time and thorough. Tech showed me a picture of my flame sensor before and after cleaning it. Small thing, but I liked seeing it.

— Javier, Plain City · Furnace tune-up · ★★★★★

Cooling

Our bonus room over the garage was 88 degrees every July. Kenji put in a one-zone ductless unit in a single day and now it's the coolest room in the house. My teenagers have moved in permanently, which was not the goal.

— Kristen, Powell · Ductless mini-split · ★★★★★

AC quit during the heat wave and everybody in town was booked three days out. K&D had someone here the next morning because we're Comfort Club members. Capacitor replaced in 30 minutes.

— Ray, Grove City · AC repair · ★★★★★

New AC works great and the crew was spotless. Four stars only because the follow-up thermostat setup call took a week to schedule and I had to call twice. Once he got here, the tech was excellent.

— Nathan, Worthington · Air conditioner replacement · ★★★★

Reply from Dana Kowalczyk, VP of Heating & Cooling: Nathan, you're right, and I'm sorry. A thermostat follow-up should never take two phone calls. Marisol and I have since set up those visits to be booked before the install crew even leaves the driveway. Thanks for the honest review, and for choosing us. — Dana

Dana talked us out of the bigger AC we thought we wanted, did an actual load calculation, and the smaller unit keeps the house more comfortable and less clammy than the old one ever did. Saved us money up front, too.

— Aisha, Dublin · Air conditioner replacement · ★★★★★

Emergencies and everything else

A pipe burst in our crawlspace at 2 a.m. on New Year's Day. A real human answered the phone, walked me to the main shut-off with a flashlight over the phone, and a tech was here before 4. I didn't know companies still did that.

— Mike, Grandview Heights · Emergency burst pipe · ★★★★★

I'm a widow and I worry about being taken advantage of. The tech explained everything twice without making me feel silly, gave me the price on paper, and his photo came by text before he arrived so I knew who to let in. I've recommended K&D to my whole church group.

— Dorothy, Hilliard · Garbage disposal & faucet install · ★★★★★

Sewage backing up into the basement floor drain on a Saturday. T showed up with the jetter and a sense of humor, which we needed. Cleared it, scoped it, gave us a plan. Five stars and a plate of cookies.

— Kevin, Westerville · Emergency drain cleaning & hydro-jetting · ★★★★★

We bought a 1920s house and asked K&D to look over every system before we moved in. Two techs spent half a day, wrote up a list ranked by "do it now" to "someday," and never once tried to sell us the whole list.

— Hannah, Columbus (Northwest) · Whole-home plumbing & HVAC inspection · ★★★★★

How we handle reviews

We don't pay for reviews, we don't filter them, and we don't offer discounts in exchange for stars. Every review that mentions a problem goes to Agnes or Dana personally, and one of them reaches out. Most of the changes we've made to how we schedule, stock parts and follow up came straight from customers who took the time to tell us what we could do better.

Had a K&D visit lately?

Tell us how it went. Good, bad or "it was fine," we want to hear it.

Reviews are posted with your first name and town only.
