Upfront pricing
What it costs, before we pick up a wrench
Nobody likes a surprise bill. Here are our posted prices for the jobs we do most, plus a plain explanation of what's included and what can move a number up or down.
How our pricing works
We've priced by the job, not by the hour, since Stan was running one van out of his garage. A slow technician shouldn't cost you more than a fast one, and you shouldn't have to watch the clock while someone works under your sink. So here's how it goes:
- We diagnose. The service call is a flat $89. Your technician finds the problem and tells you what's going on in plain English.
- You get a price in writing. Before any work starts, you get a firm, flat price on a tablet or on paper. Most of the time we'll give you a "good, better, best" choice where one makes sense.
- You decide. Say yes and the $89 is applied to the repair. Say no and you pay the $89 and nothing more. No hard feelings and no pressure.
- The price doesn't change. If the job takes longer than we figured, that's on us, not you.

What's included in every price
When you see a number on this page, it's not a teaser with a dozen add-ons waiting at the end. Unless the quote says otherwise, a K&D price includes:
- Standard parts and materials for the job
- Labor, however long it takes
- Permits and inspection fees where the city or township requires them (water heaters and system replacements, mostly)
- Haul-away and disposal of the old equipment
- Shoe covers, drop cloths and a clean work area when we leave
- A text with your technician's photo and name before they arrive
- The K&D Promise: 1 year on labor for repairs, 10 years parts and 2 years labor on new systems
What changes a price
Houses aren't all built the same, and a 1958 ranch in Upper Arlington isn't going to look like a 2019 build in Powell. Here are the honest reasons a quote can come in above the "from" number:
- Access
- A water heater in an open basement is one job. The same heater in a crawlspace or a finished closet with a door that's two inches too narrow is another.
- Code updates
- Replacing old equipment sometimes means bringing it up to current code: an expansion tank, a new gas shutoff, a drain pan, or updated venting. We'll show you what's required and why.
- Size and type
- A 75-gallon tank, a high-efficiency two-stage furnace or a variable-speed heat pump costs more than the baseline unit.
- Condition of what's there
- Corroded shutoffs, galvanized pipe that crumbles when you touch it, or a cracked cast-iron stack can turn a simple swap into a bigger repair.
- Distance in the line
- For drain and sewer work, a clog 90 feet out under the front yard is more work than one at the cleanout.
- Timing
- After-hours emergency visits carry the $149 dispatch fee. Comfort Club members never pay it.
What doesn't change a price: how long the job takes once we've quoted it, what day of the week it is during office hours, or what neighborhood you live in.
Common questions about our prices
Why do you charge for a service call at all?
Because the diagnostic is real work by a licensed technician with a stocked truck. We keep it low at $89 and credit it to the repair, so if you go ahead it costs you nothing extra.
Can you give me a price over the phone?
For the jobs on this table, we can usually give you the starting price and a likely range. For anything else we need to see it. Guessing over the phone is how other folks end up with surprise bills.
Do you match other quotes?
We don't do bidding wars, but we do offer a free second opinion on any system replacement quote. Sometimes the honest answer is that your furnace just needs a part, not a new furnace.
Do you have discounts?
Yes. Military, first-responder and teacher households get 10% off, and there are a few more on our coupons page.
